MISTER SNACKS, INC. CONDUCTS NATIOWIDE RECALL OF VARIOUS SNACK PRODUCTS BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE HEALTH RISK
Mister Snacks, Inc. of Amherst, New York, is recalling specific snack items because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. This action is a result of the Peanut Corp. of America expanded recall of January 28, 2009 for all products manufactured in their Blakely, Georgia facility since January 1, 2007.
Salmonella is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Only products that were produced with peanuts that came from Peanut Corp. of America in Blakely, GA are being recalled. The snacks are packaged in clear plastic bags with an applied label. Product may be a single item (peanuts) or a blend of dried fruits and peanuts. The products are sold under the names of Sunbird Snacks and Sunbird Snacks Gourmet.
The affected snack products were distributed throughout the United States and Canada through retail stores, mail order, and direct delivery.
The following products, codes and item weights, with the expiration date code of EXP 09/09 and earlier, listed below are subject to this recall:
